footsteps Learning Journal
How do we document your baby and child's learning journey together?

Learning Journeys

Your footsteps teacher/kaiako visits are a wonderful opportunity to talk about all the learning and development that you have noticed your child experiencing over the month. Together you will plan how you can nurture your child’s strengths and interests to extend their learning and development. The teacher/kaiako will then document all this wonderful information for you in a learning journey.

  What’s Happening

These are short notes that the caregiver records about what has been going on during the month. They are also used for planning the next months activities and goals. They can include things you have done together like:

·        Play you have enjoyed

·        Books you have read and puzzles you have enjoyed

·        Places you have visited and explored and

·        People you have met

The what’s happening sheet is a very important and required record of the learning and development that has occurred.

Wow ! Moments

We invite you to contribute to your child’s learning journal by writing simple stories about the WOW! stuff that happens from time to time.  These are the events that you haven’t seen before, can make you smile, and realise that you have provided the opportunity for this WOW! to happen. They need only be a few sentences long, but will be treasured memories for both you and your child.

  Photo Stories

As the saying goes  “A picture is worth a thousand words”. Photo stories are a wonderful way to capture a special moment. They are also a perfect opportunity to record the child’s voice. They can so often surprise us with their fascinating insight and memory of an event and love to know that you value their words enough to carefully write them down.
