Become an in-home caregiver

What are the benefits of being an in-home caregiver with footsteps?

footsteps offer outstanding educational support, employment and contract resources and access to subsidies all for free. We work with all types of caregivers including in-home caregivers and whanau caregivers. Here are the reason's why footsteps is the best choice:

We offer you outstanding 1:1 support
At footsteps, we really care about making sure you get the best support. That’s why you will receive a regular visits from one of our qualified ECE teachers/kaiako. They will go the extra mile to make sure you feel supported every step of the way. To find out more about how we support you through the footsteps ‘learn’ programme, click here.

We help you focus on the role you love
We believe caregivers should be allowed to devote their time to their passion – caring for children. Lots of other home-based services expect their caregivers to fill out lots of paperwork and write learning stories each day. At footsteps, we believe this is the teachers/kaiako role, so they are able to provide professional insight into the learning journey report including recommendations on how to further a child's development. We have a policy of ‘no admin fees’

We offer all our caregivers and families a free payroll option, agreements and care plans as part of 'footsteps rewards' to guarantee the relationship between you and your family is a happy one. We do not charge to administer subsidies like other homebased services and our Customer Service is on hand to help answer any questions you may have.

We connect you to your community
Our teachers/kaiako will help put you in touch with other footsteps caregivers in your area and come up with ideas on ways to get out and have fun in the community including playgroups, music, baby gym and more. We also send out quarterly newsletters so you stay up to date with all the latest news at footsteps and learning resource ideas. We also have a Facebook page that we post new learning ideas onto regularly.

We offer you training and resources
We provide free learning resources such as toys, books and puzzles that are personalized to your child and change every month when our teachers visit. We will also be offering all our caregivers a first aid course in the coming months to encourage professional development. We have developed our own NZQA approved course that focuses specifically on pre-school first aid to reflect our commitment to tamariki.
